New Delhi:
With West Bengal ready to vote in a few months, Mamata Banerjee's Railway Budget ensured her home state was well looked after.
She has announced a metro coach factory to be set up in Singur; a rail industrial park in Nandigram; a track machine facility in Uluberia; new services for the Kolkata metro; and a new centre for software in Darjeeling.
West Bengal will also get new Duronto trains.
Each time she announced the benefits for Bengal in her budget, Opposition members in Parliament protested noisily.
An angry Ms Banerjee finally said,"I am proud of my state." She then turned to former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and asked,"What did you do, Lalu ji? You did so much for Bihar...why shout now?"
