Guwahati:
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today claimed that BJP and AGP had links with the Paresh Barua faction of ULFA and the militant outfit would support the two parties during the forthcoming Assembly elections.
"The ULFA has issued direct threat to Congress and its members and asked the people of Assam not to vote for us. This clearly indicates that the Paresh Barua faction is indirectly extending support to the BJP and AGP," Gogoi told reporters.
The Chief Minister, however, said the party was not bothered about such threats as they were used to getting it even in the past and it made no difference to their electoral
prospects.
Paresh Barua-led faction had issued threats to Congress MLAs and the party's assembly election candidates and claimed responsibility for the IED explosion at the state Congress headquarters here March 14.
Gogoi said he was confident about Congress returning to power and become the single largest party after the two-phase polling to be held on April four and 11.
"The so-called intelligence reports quoted by the BJP claiming it will come to power has no basis. I have my own assessment and we will form the next government," he said.
The Chief Minister alleged that when the BJP-led NDA government was at the Centre, it did great injustice to the people of Assam. "Not to speak about big projects, not one medium project was not granted to the state though it was passing through an economic crisis due to AGP misgovernance."
The 11th Finance Commission had granted only Rs 13,280 crore when the AGP was in power in the state and the NDA was at the Centre but now Assam was getting Rs 57,832.70 crore under the 13th Finance Commission, he said.
Gogoi said the BJP was bringing up the issue of corruption in North Cachar hills but when the fund diversion scam took place, the AGP-ASDC combine was ruling the North Cachar Autonomous Hills Council.
"The BJP and its allies are now trying to divert the attention of the people by making false and baseless allegations but the people of Assam will reject their nefarious designs," Gogoi claimed.
