Gujarat election results: BJP way ahead of Congress

Ahmedabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is way ahead of rival Congress leading in 92 of the 143 seats in Gujarat from where trends are available so far.

Congress candidates are leading in 47 constituencies but its state chief Arjun Modhwadia is trailing at Porbandar.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi is leading in Maninagar from where he is seeking to enter the state assembly for a third time.

He is pitted against Congress' Shweta Bhatt, wife of suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt, who has accused Modi of complicity in 2002 communal riots.

Gujarat Parivartan Party chief Keshubhai Patel is leading from Visavadar, while NCP is leading in one seat and others in two.

Prominent BJP candidates leading their rivals include former Minister of State for Home Amit Shah and Saurabh Patel.
