Satara:
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has cautioned ally Congress not to be over-confident after its victory in Karnataka assembly elections. He said it was far too early for the UPA to celebrate as the victory was no indication that the alliance would return to power at the Centre after general elections in 2014.
Speaking in Maharashtra's Satara, the NCP chief said that the assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, scheduled to take place later this year, will be a bigger challenge for the alliance.
He said, "Don't make any conclusion just because of any win. One can't say just with one win which way the wind is blowing."
The Congress won 121 seats in Karnataka Assembly elections, and returned to power in the state. The victory came as a big relief for the party caught in a series of corruption scandals perilously close to general elections next year.
