Chennai: Chief Ministerial candidates and heading rival alliances, DMK President M Karunanidhi and AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalithaa, on March 24, filed their nominations for the April 13 Assembly polls.
Karunanidhi is seeking election from Tiruvarur constituency while Jayalalithaa from Srirangam.
Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam Chief, Actor Vijaykant also filed his nomination from Rishivandhiyam near Villupuram.
The DMDK is part of the AIADMK combine.
According to a release from the Chief Electoral Office, 1,052 candidates filed their papers today, the highest of 151 from Tiruppur district.
Out of this, Tiruppur (North) Assembly constituency received 55 nominations, the highest number among all constituencies. The total number of nomination papers filed in this constituency was 110, the release said.
A total of 1,509 nominations have been filed till date, it said.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala go to polls on April 13.
