Kerala polls: Rahul Gandhi slams Left for unemployment

Thiruvananthapuram: Taking a swipe at the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) for unemployment in Kerala, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, on the campaign trail in the state, today said that his party is going to make Kerala a place where youngsters can find a job.

"If you're a young person in Kerala today, there are three ways of getting a job. First, you go to some other part of country. Second, you go to the Middle-East. Third, you belong to communist party. We are going to give you a Kerala where youngsters can find a job at home," said Rahul Gandhi.

Addressing a Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) election convention in Thiruvananthapuram, the Congress General Secretary, continuing his tirade against CPI-M-led LDF government in Kerala, also said the five-year LDF rule had destroyed the environment for industrialisation in the state.

Kerala never finds a place in the list of states preferred by industrialists to invest, Gandhi said. The LDF government was not a functioning one and so, "land, liquor and lottery" syndicate ruled the state.

He said Kerala needed a government that works in partnership with UPA at the Centre for speedy development of the state. Gandhi alleged that LDF government failed to make use of the funds released by UPA in the past five years.

If UDF comes to power, it would bring out an investment friendly climate in the state that would speed up industrialisation which would generate job opportunities, he said.
