Mumbai:
Congress candidate from Bandra, Janardhan Chandurkur, has been detained on charges of distributing cash. Rs 2.15 lakhs was found in his car.
The Congress leader has been detained on the complaint of the Samajwadi Party and the Shiv Sena.
Chandurkar, a three-term MLA, is contesting from Bandra (East) constituency.
Rival Shiv Sena workers alleged that he was distributing money to lure voters and alleged that there were bundles of currency notes in his vehicle. Police said it is questioning him over the allegations.
Meanwhile, the PA of Rajendra Shinghane, NCP candidate from Buldhana, was also detained along with three other NCP corporators from the area on charges of distributing cash. However, they were let off after questioning. Rs 4.5 lakhs in their possession have been taken away by the police.
In another case of cash distribution for vote, 12 supporters of Ramakant Khaitan, Congress candidate, Akola (E) were arrested. They were released on bail of Rs 55,000 found in their possession.
Vaibhav Naik, Shiv Sena candidate from Kudal, contesting against Narayan Rane was als detained on charges of distributing cash. He was let off after questioning.
