Kolkata:
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee met Governor MK Narayanan at Raj Bhavan on Friday evening to formally stake claim to form government in West Bengal.
Trinamool inflicted a crushing defeat to the Left Front which has been ruling the state for 34 years and emerged with a massive majority.
Earlier, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee stepped down as Chief Minister and submitted resignation of his council of ministers to the Governor.
The Governor requested Bhattacharjee to continue till alternative arrangements were made.
