Mizoram polls: Kolasib Deputy Commissioner removed after goof-up in printing ballots
Aizawl: Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Kolasib district on Mizoram-Assam border R. Lalramnghaka was transferred after a faux pas was detected in the printing of postal ballots to be used for the Bru voters in the Tripura relief camps.

State election department officials said that the transfer order was issued yesterday and Lalramnghaka was posted as Joint Secretary to the Government of Mizoram.

He was replaced by Jitendra Yadav who joined as the DC of Kolasib today.

The officials said that the postal ballots sent from Kolasib district had mistakenly printed 'Mizoram People's Party' while the right name of the party was 'Mizoram People's Conference' (MPC).

Election officials conducting the polling in the six relief camps in Tripura said that there was no problem among the voters due to the mistake and the Election Commission also accepted the votes.

Lalramnghaka told media persons that he owned responsibility for the error and that he sent a letter to the state chief secretary L. Tochhong yesterday asking the latter to transfer him.

Meanwhile, all the ballot boxes used in the polling in six Bru relief camps in Tripura have been brought back to the counting centres in Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei towns, state Joint Chief Electoral Officer H. Lalengmawia said, adding that the poll turnout was 74.34 per cent.

Lalengmawia said that the highest poll turnout was recorded at 86.64 per cent in Hamsapara relief camp and the polling was extended till yesterday when it went on till 9:30 pm.
