Dehra Dun: In a boost to the Congress in Uttarakhand, former Chief Minister and party veteran N D Tiwari today hit the campaign trail holding a road show in favour of his one-time rival Indira Hridayesh.
Tiwari waved to the crowd in an open vehicle, appealing to the electorate to vote for Congress nominee Hridayesh who is contesting from Haldwani seat in Kumaon region.
Hridayesh was the PWD minister during the Congress rule in the state between 2002 and 2007.
"Hridayesh has done a lot of development work including a strong network of roads in the hill state," the former Chief Minister said drumming support in her favour.
The veteran Congress leader, who did not campaign for party candidates in 2007 assembly election, is said to have considerable political influence in Kumaon region.
Tiwari, who had quit as Andhra Pradesh Governor in the wake of allegations of his involvement in a sex scandal, had remained aloof from the party during the past two years appearing in public functions rarely.
In the 2007 election, Hridayesh was said to be in the camp of Congress leader Harish Rawat, a known opponent of Tiwari.
