Kohima:
The Nagaland Peoples' Front (NPF) was on Thursday way ahead as votes were counted for elections to the 60-member Nagaland assembly. By 3 pm, the NPF had won 25 seats and was leading in another nine. The Congress had won three seats and was leading in four.
While the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won two seats, the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and the BJP won a seat each.
The state's ruling NPF-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland alliance is hoping for a third consecutive term.
"Counting of votes is on in full swing. There are no reports of any untoward incident," said Joint Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland N. Moa Aier.
Three-tier security has been arranged at all the centres to ensure that counting goes on without a hitch.
In the last elections in 2008, the NPF had secured 26 seats, while the Congress managed 23. The BJP and NCP secured two seats each. Seven independents made it to the assembly.
The Democratic Alliance of Nagaland has the support of 35 legislators in the outgoing Nagaland Assembly.
