Erode, Tamil Nadu:
A poll code violation case has been slapped against former Union Minister EVKS Elangovan and 20 others for organising an unauthorised public meeting, officials said today.
Elangovan was addressing a meeting on Monday at the KN Palayam village near Gobichettipalayam when flying squad sleuths arrived and were stopped from trying to video-graph the proceedings, officials said.
Elangovan and his men were slapped with a case of poll code violation because prior permission is required to conduct a public meeting, they said.
However, Erode District Panchayat Council Chairman Saravanan said Elangovan had only been discussing Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi's March 31 visit to the district with his supporters.
