Aizawl: The turnout in Mizoram assembly election would cross 83 per cent, which is the highest-ever in polls in the state, state Chief Electoral Officer Ashwani Kumar said today.
The turnout in the elections yesterday was the highest ever in the state, surpassing the 2008 assembly polls when it was 82.35 per cent, Mr Kumar said.
"Though there were allegations of intimidation of voters in some constituencies, police officials sent to investigate did not find any prima facie evidence," he said, adding the turnout in these seats was also over 80 per cent.
He thanked polling officials, churches, NGOs, media, security personnel and the people for ensuring peaceful and free and fair polls.
Meanwhile, the police said a person named Darliansanga of Sakawrdai village was arrested this morning for link with the Manipur-based Hmar People's Convention (Democrats) and for threatening people demanding votes for a particular candidate.
