Polling began on a brisk note in 62 constituencies in the first of the two-phase Assam Assembly elections at 7 am on Monday.
Large queues were witnessed in front of many booths.
An 85,09,011-strong electorate will decide the fate of 485 candidates in 62 of the 126 Assembly constituencies. Among prominent contestants are Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and several senior ministers, including Pradyut Bordoloi and Bharat Chandra Narah.
The second phase of elections will be held on April 11 in the remaining 64 constituencies.
