Replace Kolkata Police Commissioner, says Election Commission

Replace Kolkata Police Commissioner, says Election Commission
Kolkata: While the Trinamool and the Congress fight over seats, the Election Commission's order to replace the Kolkata Police Commissioner before the Assembly polls on the 18th of April has taken the Bengal Government by surprise.

The Commission has sought Gautam Mohan Chakraborty's replacement, apparently, because he has completed more than three years in office. But this 3-year rule applies to police officials only up to the rank of Inspector Generals, while the police commissioner is of DGP rank.

The government has also been asked to prepare a panel of three officers for the post and submit it to the Election Commission. The Commission will choose the candidate.
