Tamil Nadu: With protests mounting against his wife's candidature from Mylapore, Tamil Nadu Congress chief K.V. Thangkabalu has filed his nomination as a substitute candidate from the same constituency for the April 13 assembly elections.
Thangkabalu has been facing flak from party members and leaders for his choice of candidates, more so for fielding his wife Jayanthi from the Mylapore constituency.
The Congress, part of the DMK-led alliance, is contesting 65 out of the 234 assembly seats in the polls.
The party cadres rose in protest soon after the list of candidates was announced.
They attacked the party headquarters here and also held protests outside Thangkabalu's residence.
According to Thangkabalu, his wife Jayanthi is the party's official candidate and he is the substitute candidate.
