Uttarakhand gears up for swearing-in ceremony
Dehradun: The Parade Ground here is being decked up for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Uttarakhand, which is likely to be held in a day or two.

Tents and chairs were being put up in the ground, where security measures have been stepped up, officials said.

However, they said, in case of inclement weather, the ceremony can be shifted to some indoor venue.

"We anticipate that there is going to be a big crowd when the ceremony takes place. So we have chosen the Parade Ground as the main venue for the purpose," Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said.

In the 70-member Assembly, Congress has emerged as the largest party with 32 MLAs and has the support of three independent MLAs and one from UKD. The Bahujan Samajwadi Party, having strength of three members, has pledged its unconditional support to Congress, raising its tally to 39.

The first oath-taking ceremony of the interim BJP government was held at the Parade Ground on November 9, 2000.

Thereafter, all the swearing-in ceremonies have been held in different venues such as Pavilion Ground and ONGC Auditorium.
