Dehradun: Former Andhra Pradesh Governor N D Tiwari, who quit over allegation of his involvement in a sex scandal two years ago, today virtually returned to active politics by openly backing his nephew when he filed his nomination as Congress candidate for Uttarakhand.
Mr Tiwari was accompanied his nephew Manish Tiwari, who filed his nomination papers for the seat in Udhamsingh Nagar district.
The former Uttarakhand chief minister was said to be instrumental in getting a Congress ticket for Manish despite opposition by a section of Congress leaders.
When Manish filed his papers, Union minister Harish Rawat, a known opponent of Tiwari, was conspicuous by his absence, though PCC chief Yashpal Arya was present.
State Congress spokesman Surendra Kumar said Tiwari has always guided the party and would continue to do so in future also.
