New Delhi:
The Left is part in denial, part introspective. So used to ruling Bengal were the Communists, that leaders admit they had not factored in the rout.
As it became clear that Mamata Banerjee would be the new Chief Minister in Kolkata, CPM leader Nilotpal Basu tried to analyse what went wrong for the Left. Why it lost its biggest stronghold.
Primarily, he sought to point out that all was not lost for the Left. "Our approach was correct...maybe we could have done more here or there...but the trends are not reflective of an erosion."
He did say that the events at Nandigram and Singur had changed the political scenario in the state.
