A woman today hurled a slipper at Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav at an election rally in Baberu area of the district but it fell short of the leader.
Mr. Yadav was leaving after addressing the rally when a woman threw her slipper at him. However, the slipper did not hit him.
The woman, who was detained by police, claimed she was a rape victim and Mr. Yadav had promised to provide her Rs two lakh in 2009 but did not honour his commitment.
Earlier, addressing the gathering, Mr. Yadav accused the Congress-led UPA at the Centre of promoting corruption and scams.
"Congress did not do any development work in 40 years of its rule and always promoted corruption and scams", Mr. Yadav alleged.
