70-year-old woman booked in hand grenade explosion case
Aurangabad: A 70-year-old woman scrap collector has been booked in connection with a hand grenade explosion that killed a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan and a 14-year-old boy Maharashtra's Nanded district, police said on Monday.

A case has been registered against Paulibai Rathod on charges of culpable homicide in connection with Sunday's incident at the firing range at Jambdi village at Mudkhed taluka, they said.

The accused is alleged to have carelessly handled the grenade and later threw it in the direction of the jawans killing PSI Abhishek Kumar Singh, 32 and Satish Rathod, 14 and injured eight others.

According to police, while training, a jawan threw a hand -grenade after removing its safety pin, which fell into a pit.

Paulibai, who was collecting bullet-covers in the vicinity, picked up the grenade. When the jawans warned her, she panicked and instead hurled it towards them, they said.

Police said that the villagers are generally given prior warning of the firing practice at the shooting range by the CRPF jawans. However, Sunday being a holiday, several children and women had gathered at the shooting range to collect empty bullet shells and remains of hand grenades, which could be later sold as scrap.
