The global market has experienced a high surge in the production and sales of electric vehicles. The Indian automotive market also witnessed higher sales of EVs. As a result, the sales of EVs have gone up by 19 percent in the Indian market. The Tata Punch has been registered as the top-selling EV in 2024.
The Indian automotive sector recorded sales of more than 1 lakh EVs in 2024, which contributed to the increase of EV sales by 19 percent. According to the data, out of all the four-wheeler passenger vehicles, the electric four-wheelers achieved sales of 2.5%. This shows a positive growth of EVs in the Indian market.
Tata suffered a drop in terms of sales figures, as it sold 66,690 units of EVs in 2023, which has come down to 66,561 units in 2024. Even after the drop of 0.2 percent, Tata has registered itself as the market dominator in the EV segment with a market share of 62 percent. Tata Punch EV emerged as the highest-selling EV in India. Data suggests that Tata sold a total of 22,724 units of the Tata Punch EV in 2024.
MG bagged the second position in the sales of EV four-wheelers with a growth of 126 percent, as it sold 28,879 units of EVs in 2024 which was restricted to just 12,598 units in 2023. The MG Comet and the newly launched MG Windsor EV are the most-selling MG EVs in 2024, with total unit sales of 11,625 and 10,045 respectively.
Mahindra & Mahindra witnessed a 26 percent growth in EV sales and secured the third position in the list. It sold 7881 units of EVs in 2024, surpassing 6231 units of EV sales in 2023. With this Mahindra & Mahindra registered a market share of 7% followed by Citroen and Hyundai with 3 percent and 2 percent market share, respectively.
