KTM 390 Enduro R vs Kawasaki KLX 230: Specifications

It is abundantly clear that the KTM is the more powerful motorcycle of the two and that too with significant difference. 45.37 hp against 18 hp and 39 Nm against 18.3 Nm. Both motorcycles get a 6-speed gearbox but the KTM also gets a bi-directional quick-shifter. Also, the Kawasaki gets an air-cooled engine while the KTM gets a liquid-cooled engine.

KTM 390 Enduro R vs Kawasaki KLX 230: Dimensions

The KTM 390 Enduro is significantly heavier at 177 kg, with the KLX 230 weighing in at 139 kg. Moreover, the Kawasaki gets a taller seat at 880 mm, while the KTM has a relatively more accessible seat at 860 mm. The 390 Enduro R has a longer wheelbase and less ground clearance than the KLX 230. The KTM also gets a bigger fuel tank, with a capacity of 9 litres, compared to the 7.6 litres on the KLX 230.

The 390 Enduro R gets 43 mm WP Apex full adjustable suspension and an adjustable WP monoshock at the rear. The KLX 230 gets 37 mm telescopic fork and a monoshock at the rear. The big difference here is in the suspension travel. The KTM gets 200 mm travel at the front and 205 mm at the rear, while the Kawasaki gets 240 mm travel up front and 250 mm travel at the rear but it isn't adjustable. The 390 Enduro R also gets bigger brakes compared to the KLX 230.

The KTM 390 Enduro R is loaded with features. There's a 4.2-inch TFT screen along with two riding modes - street and off-road. Then, you also get switchable ABS and traction control along with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation. In comparison, the Kawasaki KLX 230 gets a digital console along with app connectivity.

There is a difference of just Rs. 7,000 between the two motorcycles. However, what needs to be noted is that KTM will soon launch the International-spec model, which offers 230 mm suspension travel at both ends, 890 mm seat height and 272 mm ground clearance. But that will be priced at a slight premium. Coming to both these motorcycles, on paper, the KTM 390 Enduro R is a much better deal, with the only compromise being the suspension. Unless you are an off-road fanatic, then the less suspension travel shouldn't be a bother. Plus, KTM has a much wider sales & service network and fixing the KTM should be relatively easier and cheaper than the Kawasaki KLX 230.
