Royal Enfield Classic 650 vs BSA Gold Star 650: Engine Specifications

The two motorcycles may share the retro flavour but are distinctly different in terms of feel. The displacement may be similar but the Royal Enfield makes use of its tried and tested parallel-twin engine formula while the BSA uses a large single-cylinder engine. The RE makes more power while the BSA with its single, makes more torque and that too at lower revs. The Classic 650 also benefits from a 6-speed gearbox whereas the Gold Star 650 continues to get a 5-speed unit.

The RE Classic 650 gets a bigger fuel tank but is also significantly heavier than the BSA Gold Star 650. Both motorcycles have similar ground clearance but the Gold Star has a 20 mm lower seat compared to the Classic 650. It has a longer wheelbase compared to the BSA. The Classic also gets bigger rims but it is the Gold Star 650 which gets a fatter rear tyre. Both motorcycles get a 320 mm disc brake up front, but the Classic 650 gets a bigger disc at the rear. What needs to be noted that the BSA Gold Star 650 gets Brembo callipers at both ends. The suspension is similar on both motorcycles.

Now, the Classic 650 gets an LED headlight and spoke wheels, while the BSA Gold Star continues to get spoke wheels and a rather weak headlight. The BSA get a twin-pod instrument console with a little digital inset while the Classic 650 gets a very retro-looking console with a chrome bezel, a digital display and a Tripper pod. Both bikes get a USB charger but the BSA gets a type C port as well.

The Royal Enfield Classic 650 is the pricier motorcycle of the two. Prices of the Classic 650 start at Rs. 3.37 lakh and go up to Rs. 3.50 lakh. On the other hand, prices of the BSA Gold Star 650 start at Rs. 2.99 lakh and go up to Rs. 3.35 lakh. In fact, where the prices of the BSA Gold Star 650 end is where the prices of the Classic 650 begin. Both motorcycles are available in multiple colour options.
