Volkswagen confirmed last year that they will introduce a new sub-4m SUV to the market. Now, the brand has initiated the testing of the vehicle aimed at markets like South America and India. Spotted with minimal camouflage, the Volkswagen Tera has been spied testing in cold-weather on the snow-covered land of Sweden. These pictures give a look at the design of the vehicle based on the MQB A0 platform. It is to be noted that this is the same platform that has been used to develop the recently launched Skoda Kylaq.

Diving into the details of the design, the Volkswagen Tera comes with a sleek appearance for the headlamp on either side of the grille sporting the VW logo. It gets a completely new design with a fresh appeal for the bumper, giving the vehicle a unique look while providing space for the very prominent air intake. Chances are the design of the grille and headlamp for the production version might be altered in the production version.

Taking a look at the silhouette of the vehicle it is clear that the design is very different compared to others in the lineup. The SUV gets a roofline at an angle with sleek windows, rather thick C-pillar, and muscular shoulders. To characterise the nature of the SUV it gets a black lower body cladding.
Meanwhile, the rear end of the vehicle offers it a sporty style complemented by an aggressive faux skid plate. Along with this, the tail lights seem to have a new design although the pictures don't offer a clear look at the units but they seem to have an element connecting them covering the width of the vehicle.

Once launched, the Volkswagen Tera is expected to use a 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is capable of operating on ethanol which will be used for the South American market and petrol which will be used for the Indian market. This unit will be paired to a manual transmission with the option of an automatic transmission transferring power to the front wheels.

The vehicle is expected to launch in India next year. It will compete against models like Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Renault Kiger, and others in the segment.
