Tata Motors Registers Flat Domestic Sales Growth In March 2025

In FY25, the automobile giant recorded a 4 per cent decrease in its sales numbers, with a total of 9,12,155 units sold throughout that period.

Tata Motors Limited, one of the major OEMs in India, has announced its sales numbers for March 2025. Based on the latest data released by the brand, the brand has registered total domestic sales of 90,500 units, which is less compared to the 90,822 units sold in the same month last year, which translates to a marginal decline of 0.3 per cent. The overall performance for FY25 also registered a decline of 4 per cent with sales dropping from 912,155 units from 949,015 units in FY24.

The passenger vehicle (PV) sector, which includes electric vehicles, showed growth in March with a 3 per cent year-on-year increase, totaling 51,872 units compared to 50,297 units in March 2024. However, this slight growth can be credited to a notable 9 per cent drop recorded in February. Despite the encouraging numbers for March, Tata Motors' PV division concluded FY25 with a 3 per cent decrease in sales, falling to 5,56,263 units from 5,73,495 units in FY24.

Sales of electric vehicles continued to decline, decreasing by 21 per cent to 5,353 units in March 2025, down from 6,738 units in the same month the previous year. Over the entire fiscal year, electric vehicle sales decreased by 13 per cent to 64,276 units compared to 73,833 units in FY24.

The commercial vehicle (CV) sector experienced a 3 per cent downturn in March, with total sales decreasing to 41,122 units from 42,262 units in the same month last year. For the complete fiscal year, CV sales fell by 5 per cent to 376,903 units, down from 395,845 units in FY24.

Diving into the details, the heavy commercial vehicle trucks noticed a growth of 1 per cent with dispatch of 12,856 units. The sales of intermediate and light medium commercial vehicles increased by 6 per cent to 7,181 units. Meanwhile, passenger carriers rose by 4 per cent to 6,088 units. Small Commercial Vehicle cargo and pickup registered a decline of 17 per cent to 12,759 units.
