A few years ago, incidents of electric vehicles catching fire were rampant across India. At the time, multiple incidents caught the audience's attention where two-wheelers and, at times, four-wheelers were seen bursting into flames. Although the number of reports of such instances seems to have come down, the occurrences still can't be ignored. In one such incident, a Tata Nexon EV reportedly caught fire while at a service center. Before this, the electric SUV allegedly had an accident and was dropped off for repairs.

Rushlane quotes, the owner of the vehicle saying, "I met with a small accident at night one day. I was driving back home and it was raining heavily, Some construction work was going on and there were no hazard warnings. There was a big pit filled with water right on the curb of the road. My vehicle fell into it. Being an EV it was not starting as expected and we dropped it off at the service centre the next day."

The report says that the service centre claims that the fire was caused by battery damage. To ensure that the owner of the EV didn't face any inconvenience, the service center verbally assured the owner of a replacement vehicle. However, it has been over eight months since the incident, with no resolution in sight.

The owner of the vehicle claims that the electric vehicle was financed, and he continues to pay the EMIs of the charred vehicle. Furthermore, he is not able to claim insurance on the EV because the insurer declined to clear the insured declared value. Voicing his frustration, the owner of the EV has shared his experience on various social media platforms.
