Tata Motors has been the "uncrowned king" of the Indian market for years now. Uncrowned because until now, the brand did not have a model with its badge that had the title of being a best-seller. This changes with the Tata Punch earning the title for the year 2024, breaking consistency of 40 years for Maruti Suzuki. This comes as the model left behind its peer Tata Nexon along with other usual suspects like WagonR, Ertiga, Brezza, Creta, and others in terms of whole sales.
Specifically, Tata Punch registered sales of over 2.02 lakh units in the Indian market. Closely following the Punch is the tallboy hatchback WagonR with sales of 1.91 lakh units. The list also had the popular MPV Maruti Suzuki Ertiga with sales of 1.90 lakh units, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza SUV with sales of 1.88 lakh units, and the Hyundai Creta with sales of 1.86 lakh units.

This success can be credited to its upright stance and decent space in the cabin. In terms of numbers, Punch stands at 3.8 meter in length and a ground clearance of 190 mm. Along with all of this, the model gets the assurance of five-star safety within a decent budget. First launched in 2021, the car competes against the likes of the Hyundai Exter and is currently available at a starting price of Rs 6.13 lakh (ex-showroom).
To support the basic factor of affordability, Tata Punch comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. It also gets the option of a CNG powertrain. This unit is paired with either a five-speed gearbox or an AMT. The power unit is tuned to produce 86 bhp of power and 115 Nm of peak torque. Adding weight to this proposition are features like stability control, iTPMS, reverse parking camera, and a 10.24-inch infotainment touchscreen.
