Volkswagen's new entry-level EV will be based on MEB platform

Volkswagen has officially announced plans to expand its line of vehicles with the addition of new electric vehicles. To initiate the process, the brand has teased the first of its entry-level EV ahead of its debut. This will be a battery-powered replacement of the discontinued VW Up hatchback. Along with this, the automaker has plans to introduce nine new models which will be launched by 2027.

The Volkswagen EV teased in the picture seems to have a futuristic design with unique lighting elements. This is complemented by the presence of a headlamp which gets a unique rectangular lighting signature framed. The brand has also added bracket-shaped LED elements. As part of the new design language, the car also features an illuminated logo.

All of the modern design elements used on the car are complemented by curvy body panels. These seem to have been designed to improve the aerodynamics of the EV while also contributing to the aesthetic appeal. With all of these elements in place, the rather muscular-looking EV will likely be placed below the ID.2all in the brand's lineup.

The body and unique design of the electric vehicle will be based on the MEB platform of the brand. It is likely to be equipped with a single motor setup with a rather small battery pack which fits the setup and keeps the cost in control. This powertrain will likely be shared by entry-level electric vehicles of Skoda. With all of this, the EV will have a starting price of €20,000 (around Rs 18 lakh).

The brand has not given any clarification on the launch of the entry-level electric vehicle in the Indian market. Presently, the German brand is working on the launch of other electric vehicles in the Indian market. These vehicles will be underpinned by the slightly modified version of the CMP architecture tuned for the Indian market.
