The Indian government previously allowed the import of vintage cars built before 1950. The government has revised the policy and now Indian car enthusiasts can import cars manufactured till 1975. 



The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has instructed that the imported cars are not eligible for resale on the Indian ground and should be used as personal vehicles. Also, the imported cars must comply with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 for use on public roads.
