16,000 police personnel deployed on streets for the New Year's Eve
Bangalore: With only a day remaining to ring in the new year, the police department is on guard and has taken all security measures to ensure that the new year revelry doesn't go awry.

The police department has deployed 16,000 contingent of police personnel from that of the rank of commissioner to constable. This also includes about 15 City Armed Reserve (CAR), 20 Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), who will be on night duty on city streets on the New Year's Eve.

Speaking on the security measures, Sunil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) told media that the department had decided to take strict action against rash driving, particularly those who drive under the influence of alcohol and disturb the celebrations in the city.

He said, "All fly-overs on Mysore Road, Hosur Road, Richmond Road and ITC will be closed for vehicular movement from Saturday, Dec 31,  between 8 pm and 6 am on Sunday, Jan 1.

Traffic on December 31
M G Road and Brigade Road will be closed for traffic and parking on all busy roads in the Central Business District will be banned on December 31. On Brigade Road, public can only walk from M G Road Junction to Opera Junction.

Walking from the opposite direction is prohibited for security reasons. Public can enter M G Road via Residency Road cross (near Symphony Theatre cross).

Deputy Commissioner of police will man the security arrangements in the MG Road-Brigade Road area. The security in the divisions will be headed by the Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP).
