Bangalore: A KSRTC bus was set ablaze at Rayarapalya near Kamath Hotel, Dobbspet, around 3.45 pm on Sunday. Police rushed to the spot, but were unable to apprehend the miscreants or ascertain the cause of the incident.
The bus, with about 40 passengers, was on its way to Bangalore on Hosur Road, National Highway 4. Nearly 20 people stopped it, forced the passengers, the driver and conductor to alight, and set it on fire. Investigating officer Chandru Dhar of Dobbspet police station said, "The bus was completely ablaze by the time we reached. The miscreants had escaped. The passengers and crew had no clue why the attack happened."
Locals said that the likely cause of the incident was frustration and anger fuelled by reports of massive corruption in the state government. Traffic along the route was disrupted for an hour, in which time the fire was doused. The men who set the bus on fire were careful not to cause injury to people, police said.
