Bangalore: The Lokayukta sleuths, on Monday, arrested special deputy commissioner (Bangalore, Urban) Ramanjaneya while accepting Rs 50,000 as bribe from a landowner of Bommasandra in Anekal Taluk.
The Lokayukta, on the basis of a complaint by Narayanaswamy, the landowner, laid a trap and caught Ramanjaneya red-handed.
Narayanswamy stated that Ramanjaneya had demanded the amount to issue an order on his application for converting his land into industrial purpose. He had submitted an application for the conversion of his 5.14 acres.
A Lokayukta team led by deputy superintendent of police S Girish and inspector K Ravishankar laid the trap and apprehended the accused while collecting the bribe through two agents.
There were allegations against the same officer that he was trying to grab land and had put up boards on farmers' lands in various places in Bangalore urban area, claiming that the lands belonged to the government.
"We have found that the official used to send his agents to strike a deal with the farmers to sell the property to land sharks wherever the boards are erected," a Lokayukta official said.
"The Lokayukta police will look into these allegations and are now collecting information about his property and other details," the source added.
