Bangalore:
A 17-year-old college student was allegedly beaten by four seniors at a college in Bangalore for not contributing to funds for the ongoing Ganesh festival. The boy has filed a police complaint.
He has alleged that he was attacked six days ago by a group of seniors who were collecting funds. When he told the seniors that he would pay later, they allegedly dragged him into a room and attacked him so badly that he was injured near the eye.
The college principal has suspended the older students, but calls the incident a "misunderstanding".
"It happened during lunch hour. Today they will be friends; tomorrow they may fight and become friends again. I have suspended them as disciplinary action so that they learn that they should not fight," he said.
The police have registered a case of assault. "The boy received minor injuries, one near his eye. We have come to know independently that the college has taken internal action. We will also investigate," said Rohini K, a senior police officer.
