Bangalore:
Police today foiled an attempt to abduct a six-year-old boy for ransom by firing on two kidnappers and injuring them when they were trying to flee with the hostage.
"The boy was kidnapped at around 4 pm in Cottonpet police station limits. Kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh by calling the boy's parents," Labhu Ram, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bangalore West, told PTI.
He said that as soon as police got the information, a team was formed for the rescue of the boy. "As the police zeroed in on the kidnappers near Srirampura, they attacked our two constables and injured them."
"Despite our repeated warnings, they injured our men. In self-defence, police had to fire on their legs injuring two kidnappers," he said.
The boy has been rescued, Labhu Ram said. "As of now, we know only two persons were involved. Both of them are undergoing treatment at K C General Hospital and investigation is on to find out further about them and their associates if any", he said.
