Bangalore:
Reports in local media of an arrest being made in the murder case of Bangalore techie Payal Sulekha were untrue, police said on Thursday.
Addressing the media after some reports said a former classmate of the Dell employee was arrested in connection with the case, Bangalore Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari clarified that while police have found definite leads in the case, no formal arrest has been made so far.
"An officer in our force is suffering from verbal diarrhoea. Even before evidence has been collected or definite conclusion reached, he has disclosed details from his imagination to a tabloid. We are going to administer proper medicine to him," Bidari said adding even before a person is formally arrested, no police officer should communicate to media unsubstantiated evidence.
Bidari also said that the investigation involves people from different states and that was a reason for the delay in confirming the identity of the killer.
Sulekha, originally from Assam, was discovered dead by her landlord in Bangalore's JP Nagar on Friday last week. Her husband who was away on tour when she was killed asked the landlord to check on Sulekha after her cellphone kept ringing out.
The police have suspected from the start that the killer knew Sulekha. There was no sign of the door being broken open, and nothing was missing from her flat.
