Protesters outside the school in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru:
The headmistress of a private school in Bengaluru has been arrested after a 3-year-old was sexually assaulted on Monday. The police has also arrested the chairman of the trust that governs the school, which is nearly 40 years old.
Medical tests have confirmed that the child was molested. On Tuesday, the police had arrested a security guard. CCTV footage from school cameras that was handed over to investigators did not incriminate the school, its officials had claimed yesterday.
The child and her older sister who studies at the same school in the city's Indira Nagar neighbourhood had identified the guard.
Bangalore reported a series of chilling crimes against young girls in city schools last year.
After that, the police asked schools to ensure that security cameras were installed and working, along with daily verification of identity cards for adults who collect students from school.
In this case, the police says that the school had not checked with the police about the record of the guard - a mandatory requirement introduced last year.
