Bangalore: Exactly a month since the alleged gang-rape of a six-year-old girl inside her school, Bangalore continues to protest against increasing crimes against minors and women in the city.
Demanding better safety for their children, citizens held candle light vigils at 24 different locations in Bangalore.
"I have two boys and they are unsafe too. This protest is against child abuse. I might consider home schooling them but cannot imagine dealing with abuse of any kind against by children," said Pushparaj, a parent at Vibgyor High, where the six-year-old was allegedly raped on July 2. She has not sent her two boys to school since July 14.
In just one month, eight cases of child abuse and assault against women have come to light in Bangalore and Karnataka.
"I am shocked and that's why I am here to participate. Child abuse must stop. Crimes against women must stop," said Navin Chandra, father of a seven-year-old girl.
22-year-old Rishabh, participating in one of the vigils, had a message for parents in India: "Dear parents, instead of teaching your girls to wear longer dresses, teach boys to behave. We as men need to change from within and respect women."
