Congress holds protests in Bangalore over delayed garbage disposal
Bangalore: The opposition party in Karnataka has decided to literally raise a stink over the week-long garbage disposal issue plaguing Bangalore city.

Today, at least 60 Congress workers protested at the Minerva Circle near JC Road in Bangalore. They even burnt crackers on the roads, which led to traffic jams and ironically more garbage.

"The Central Government is giving money. Hundreds of crores are allocated for waste management. The civic body has not taken care and Bangalore people are suffering for the last so many days," said Dr. Parameshwar Kar the Congress state party President who was part of this protest.

Some workers on Saturday dumped garbage outside the civic corporation office also known as Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

Garbage in Bangalore is not being picked up from bins after the main dump at Mavallipura outside the city - that usually receives the city's waste - was closed following protests by villagers living in the area and a closure notice from the state's pollution control board.

Over the weekend, the city corporation began a clean-up of thousands of tonnes of garbage that had been piling up on the streets - but much of it still remains.
