Bengaluru: In the wake of the alleged rape of a 27-year-old woman executive in Delhi by a taxi driver, City Police today issued instructions that all drivers must get their background verification done before December 31.
"All the drivers who are running taxis shall get their background verification done by end of the month of December," City Police Commissioner M N Reddi said.
Speaking to reporters after meeting taxi operators, owners and tourist taxi association, he said, police would verify whether they were involved in any criminal case in the records that are available with the police.
"If they are involved in any criminal case police clearance will not be issued," he said.
A cab driver was arrested by Delhi police for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman on Friday, as the incident raised questions over the security measures provided by cab service providers, Uber-the US based cab firm in this case.
Stating that police have instructed taxi drivers and owners that all the 25 permit conditions must be strictly followed, he said "If the permit conditions are violated by a taxi, the operator or the aggregator whoever it may be will be jointly liable for criminal action."
