Bangalore police have arrested Syed Asgar, accused of supplying cigarettes stuffed with brown sugar to his customers for the past 10 years. The arrest was made on information provided by one of his accomplices who was nabbed by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) a few days ago.
A police team led by ACP R Lakshman swooped down on Asgar and confiscated 60 gm of brown sugar worth Rs 15 lakh, cash Rs 5,000 and a mobile phone that had all the contacts of his links and customers.
Lakshman said Asgar was a habitual drug peddler who was earlier booked six years ago in connection with a similar case six years ago, and the case is pending trail.
A detailed questioning revealed that Asgar used to get brown sugar from someone called Khan from Mumbai. Asgar revealed that he used to get the stuff from Mumbai either through train or bus and used to fill it in cigarette packs and sold it to his customers for Rs 500 apiece.
Asgar confessed that the business was thriving, since he had hundreds of customers from different fields including students, IT, BT employees and businessmen from in and around Bangalore.
The CCB have booked Asgar under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and are investigating the case.
