Hoax bomb threat spreads panic at hospital

Bangalore: Panic gripped the Vydehi Hospital in Whitefield on Monday morning after it received two hoax bomb letters.

The police said the letters, in English, were placed at two different places in the wee hours of Monday, but came to light only around 9.20 am. While one of them was displayed on the notice board near the entrance of the Vydehi Medical College, the second one was placed in the cardiology department staff notice board.

Dr Vijay Kumar, a staff doctor, noticed one of the letters and passed on the message about a bomb being planted in the hospital to others. The police got the information at 9.20 am and rushed to the spot. The hospital was immediately evacuated.

The letters threated that a time bomb would go off in three hours.

Hearing the contents of the letters, doctors, officials and patients began running helter-skelter in the hospital. The doctors provided treatment to patients outside the building for about two hours .
Members of the bomb disposal squad, fingerprint experts and the dog squad searched the entire premises of the hospital, before giving the all clear signal.
