Bangalore:
A team of students from a Chennai College have won a contest organised by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on ideas and designs for future aircraft.
The team from the Department of Aerospace, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur won third place under the foreign university team category.
The team consisting Akshay Garg, Surya Kiran Peravalli, Abdul Sayeed Khan and Pate Sweety Prakash won the environmentally responsible (green) aviation college student challenge in May 2011.
They have developed a conceptual aircraft named SERA (SRM Environmentally Responsible Airliner), which is incorporated with many innovative design features.
The airplane is a 200-seater fuel-efficient airliner with increased aerodynamic performance, enabling it to take off and land on shorter runways.
NASA's Langley Aerodynamic Research Centre, located in Virginia, is organising a student forum on November 15 and 16 and the team of student has been invited to make their presentation.
