Bangalore: The body of the young IT professional from Bangalore who went missing in the Bannerghatta National Park over the weekend, was found in the park on Monday. 24-year-old Sathwik Shastry had gone trekking in the forest with his two friends on Saturday.

According to his friends, Mr Shastry got separated from them on Saturday evening. In their statements they said, the victim went to answer nature's call and they proceeded without him. When he did not join them, they went back to look for him but could not find him.

A search operation was launched by the forest department on foot to find him. Bangalore Rural SP Mr Prakash said, "We didn't feel the need for a helicopter search because the vegetation is thick."

The forest officials believe he was killed by an elephant. The body has been sent to Anekal, near Bannerghatta, for a post-mortem to determine the official cause of death.

A case has been filed against Mr Shastry's two friends for entering the national park without permission.
