Bangalore:
JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy today expressed his resolve to go on an indefinite fast from 9th July demanding a CBI probe into the allegations by ruling BJP that his family had amassed Rs 1,500 crore wealth.
"I am firm on starting my agitation demanding CBI probe into the so-called 53-page charge sheet published by BJP against the Deve Gowda family. I set a one-week deadline to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to respond to my demand for ordering a probe. But the chief minister has surrendered to silence," he said.
He warned the government against attempts to disrupt his fast. "We will not create any law and order problem. I will start the fast along with three others. No attempt should be made to arrest me, because I will not be violating any rule," he told reporters a day after JDS expressed support to his fast.
Kumaraswamy, son of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, said whatever the family owned had been "earned by hardwork and from our own earnings".
He claimed that probes instituted by late chief minister Ramakrishna Hegde into allegations of amassing illegal wealth against the family failed to establish any wrongdoing. "Courts have dismissed 11 PILs filed against my family accusing us of amassing illegal wealth," he said.
BJP had released a booklet terming it a "charge sheet" against Deve Gowda and his family members' wealth on June 28.
The government has rejected the demand for CBI probe.
Kumaraswamy said his fast was not for publicity. "It is only to protect my personal honour and also that of my family. My father never engaged himself in politics for wealth earned through dubious route," he said.
Kumaraswamy, who has released several 'documents' over allegations of corruption against Yeddyurapa, vowed that he would bring up more expose on what he called "corrupt acts" of the chief minister after sometime.
