Bangalore:
A first-year law student from Pune committed suicide by setting himself ablaze in a private lodge here on Friday, police said.
The 24-year-old man, a resident of Nanded, Pune was doing his first year LLB at a private college there and had checked into a lodge here on Thursday night, they said.
A note found near his body stated he was taking the extreme step due to the "torture" meted out to him by his sister-in-law, police said.
Meanwhile, the student's brother, an executive at a private firm here, told the police that he used to get threat notes from him warning that he would commit suicide for not continuing to send money for his studies every month.
He said he had stopped sending money as his brother had not evinced any interest in his studies and had not even cleared his first year papers.
He said his brother had unnecessarily dragged in his wife's name into the whole issue.
