Bangalore:
The driver of a cattle-laden lorry was allegedly beaten and pushed to his death from a flyover by activists belonging to a local animal welfare organisation near the city outskirts, a top police official said.
The deceased was identified as Krishnappa (40), Additional Commissioner of Police, Law & Order Sunil Kumar said.
According to the complaint given by the cleaner of the lorry, who was also allegedly beaten up by activists belonging to Akhila Karnataka Prani Daya Sangha, the activists waylaid the lorry coming from Hoovinahadagali village in Bellary near Nelamangala on the city outskirts.
But when the driver failed to stop and proceeded towards the city, they chased the lorry in their vehicle and stopped it near Peenya.
They allegedly beat the driver and cleaner with wooden clubs and when the driver started running, they allegedly pushed him from the flyover.
Police suspect that the activists must have attacked them thinking that the cattle were being taken to the slaughter house.
A case of unlawful assembly, assault and murder has been registered against the activists who fled the scene.
