Midnight ride to Nandi Hills ends in Bangalore student's death

Bangalore: A jolly ride to Nandi Hills turned fatal for an 18-year-old student as he met with an accident near Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Vignesha, a student of Agragami VSM Institute of Aerospace Engineering and Technology College, died after his motorcycle hit a kerbstone near the airport.

The police suspect that Vignesha might have failed to notice a circle roundabout, causing the accident. A case has been registered in Devanahalli police station.

The deceased, who hailed from Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu, succumbed to head injuries around 12.30 am. Vignesha and Arun, the pillion rider, were taken to the Colombia Asia Hospital by the police, but doctors declared the former brought dead. Arun, 19, fractured his left leg in the accident and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Vignesha and Arun were accompanied by Karthik and Shaktivel on another motorcycle. Vignesh had borrowed the motorcycle from a friend, said the police. The group, on its way to Nandi Hills, decided to have coffee at BIA.

All the four hail from Tamil Nadu and were residing in Yelahanka New Town. However, none of them had consumed alcohol, said investigators.

Meanwhile, the traffic police said that they were worried over the recent accidents on Bangalore- Bellary Road, which connects the BIA with the city.

So far this year, the road witnessed 13 accidents killing as many as 20 people.

On October 8, two law students of MS Ramaiah Law College were killed on the spot after their motorcycle hit a road median near BIA. On November 21, a 21-year-old student of MS Ramaiah College died in an accident on the road. The same day at Bagaluru cross, a Kingfisher Airlines employee died after his motorcycle hit two pedestrians.
