The scene outside a Bengaluru eatery - men having snacks, two women shoppers on the footpath - is transformed into one of pure horror in just one moment as a speeding SUV crashes into the crowd, leaving several injured but miraculously alive, in a shocking video put out by news agency ANI on Monday.
The driver of the white SUV, a Mahindra Xylo, was allegedly drunk. He has been arrested and charged.
The 9-second video sourced from a CCTV at Bengaluru's HSR Layout locality shows the car suddenly emerging on screen and hitting the two-wheelers parked near the footpath before ramming pedestrians. The incident took place around 2 pm on Sunday, according to a police official quoted by ANI.
"A car driven by a drunk man ploughed into pedestrians and injured seven people in Bengaluru''s HSR Layout," the official said.
Four people have been seriously injured.
The driver, Rajanna, has been arrested. "We arrested him and he is now in judicial custody... The accused was subjected to medical examination. It is confirmed he was drunk," senior police officer Ravikante Gowda said.
This is the second incident of drink-driving in Bengaluru in a week.
Last week, a Kannada actor was allegedly dragged out of the car by four men, who were allegedly drunk, and beaten up in full public view after his car brushed their bikes.
Komal was on the way to drop his daughter for tuition when the incident happened at Malleswaram, the police said.
