One person was arrested today in connection with the alleged rape and murder of an eight-year old girl whose dismembered body was recovered from an eucalyptus plantation near here, police said.
The accused, Gopal, a native of Tamil Nadu, who used to work in the same dyeing unit in which the girl's mother worked, has confessed to the crime, they said.
The girl's parents had lodged a complaint yesterday that the victim, who was playing with her younger brother, was missing.
Subsequently, brother of the girl informed his parents that Gopal had taken her somewhere on the pretext of buying her a chocolate and they immediately informed police who took the man into custody.
When he was questioned, he confessed that he throttled her to death in a nearby Eucalyptus plantation, they said, adding the body was dismembered by animals.
